Today starts with a warm up on the Confederation Trail to Kensington, home of the Kensington Railway Station, a National Historic Site of Canada. Then you'll wind your way north to hit one of PEI's scenic Heritage Roads before entering west part of PEI National Park. There you'll ride on the Dunesland Trail featuring a floating boardwalk over a freshwater pond. Next, a separated paved bike path allows you to enjoy stunning views of sand dunes, red sandstone cliffs, and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. At the end of the path is North Rustico, a charming fishing village featuring a fishing warf, seafood restaurants, and a boardwalk along the harbour.
The east part of PEI National Park is home to a several beautiful sandy beaches backed by sand dunes. After riding some paved roads from Cavendish to Brackley, you'll experience a second day of riding on a paved path with magnificent views of sand dunes, the ocean, Brackley Bay, lighthouses, and a fishing warf. A crushed gravel trail then takes you along sand dunes to Robinsons Island. The trail system at Robinsons Island—which includes lookout platforms, beach access points and interpretive signs—can add up to 7 km (4 mi) of gravel cycling if you choose.
You'll start by warming up on a paved road today before venturing onto the Confederation Trail, featuring the most scenic portion of the Confederation Trail from Morell to St. Peters Bay. On your way to Morell, you'll pass the Hillsborough River, old bridges and vast fields. Then you'll start the spectacular ride to St. Peter’s where you will see stunning views of St. Peter’s Bay and hundreds of mussel buoys in the bay.
Your route to the end of the Confederation Trail, Kilometer 273 in Elmira, takes you through the peaceful forests of the interior of the northeastern part of PEI. You'll pass through PEI’s only bird sanctuary. The stunning nature on this portion of the trail includes spirit spring that is not to be missed. Be sure to check out the Elmira Train Museum, which marks the end of the line. From there, its a short road ride around the coast to East Point, the easternmost point of PEI.
